A lesson with Eric Meloche
In the afternoon of Thursday the 26th November we went to the ice hockey stadium in order to meet Eric Meloche and to have an extraordinary bilingual lesson. Eric is a Canadian ice hockey player of the DEL-team Straubing Tigers, who was born on the 1st of May 1976 in Lachute, Quebec. Formerly he played in the AHL and in the NHL.
When we arrived in the stadium we put our skates on and went out on the ice to warm up. After that we had the opportunity to talk with Eric about Straubing, ice hockey, his life, his career. Since he answered all our questions very friendly we have learned a lot about him and his experiences. He told us that he has been playing in Straubing for 3 years and that he likes the town and his habitants very much, especially because the people here are very polite and courteous. A pupil asked him, why he decided to play in Straubing and his answer was that he had seen so many big cities that he wanted to gain experience in a small town and that he also had heard only good things about Straubing and the team. He also narrated us that his father, a former NHL-goalie for over 19 years, had been here during the summer and had coached the goaltenders Mike Bales and Markus Janka. By the way the NHL is the best league in hockey, and every player dreams of belonging to a NHL-team. The games of the National Hockey League (NHL) take place in the north of the USA and Canada. These are only a couple of things he told us and after the interesting conversation we returned to the ice to skate. Even on the ice, Eric answered some more questions and he gave autographs to all who were interested. At the end everyone got a free ticket for a game of his team in the DEL.
All in all, it was an illuminating and interesting afternoon and so I want to thank our teachers and of course Eric for this lesson.
